AD| 3 Tips to Child Proof Your Garden
With the summer holidays on the way, there’s no better time to child proof your garden. This means ensuring they have a safe space to play and explore outdoors. There are the obvious safety checks you can make like fencing off ponds, locking away sharp gardening tools and removing any harmful plants, but there are lots of other hazards that you may not have thought of.
Here are three tips to ensure your kids are safe and sound in your garden this summer…

Decking
After you have cleaned your garden decking with water, be sure to let it dry off before your little ones use it because it can become extremely slippery. It is also crucial to inspect your decking regularly to ensure the flooring boards, safety barriers and steps are all intact and haven’t suffered any damage over the winter months. If you notice any missing or loose screws it is important to fix these as soon as possible to keep the structure strong and avoid any injuries.
Grass
If you have young children who like to run around bare foot in the garden, then you may wish to consider installing artificial grass. This is a great garden solution for families because it is not only low maintenance, but it also softer on their feet and makes it easier to spot stones and sharp objects. Artificial grass also means no more mud being brought into your house after your children have been running around on the lawn.
Fencing
Finally, don’t forget to check your fence panels and repair or replace any that are damaged. You don’t want your little ones escaping through a hole in the fence! If you are installing new fencing then you should carefully consider the spacing between fence panels and pales. Little ones like to try and fit through the gaps and can easily become trapped, so ensure you choose a family-friendly option.
