AD| 5 Family Christmas Films for the Perfect Night In

December 19, 2019

Christmas is almost here! I can smell the mulled wine, hear the carol singers and see the excitement on children’s faces everywhere I go!

I’ve downloaded my Christmas playlist, set up my Panasonic wireless home cinema system ready for Christmas movie night and bought some tasty festive snacks too! It’s somewhat become a tradition of ours at Christmas!

Yes, Christmas has well and truly arrived in our home and what better way to get ready for the festive season when you have children by having a family Christmas movie night!

Here are our top five family friendly Christmas movies:

  1. Santa Claus: The Movie. The 1985 classic has been a favourite of mine ever since I first watched it as a kid. I always remember Dudley Moore’s character, Patch, being my absolute favourite. He’s funny, witty and dedicated to Santa Claus. Our twins are 7 years old and they absolutely love this classic Christmas movie!
  2. Arthur Christmas. A bit more modern is the 2011 movie, Arthur Christmas. This animated film has a fantastic message to it and it’s also very entertaining. When one of Santa’s sons, Arthur, learns that one little girl’s Christmas gift has been misplaced, he sets out on a mission to deliver the present before it is too late.
  3. Elf. Who doesn’t love Will Ferrell at Christmas? His hilarious antics as the oversized elf, Buddy, who travels to New York in search of his biological father, is both funny, sad and uplifting!
  4. Home Alone. The first one of course is the best. A Christmas classic that any child will enjoy. It’s Macaulay Culkin at his best! Eight-year-old Kevin (played by Macaulay Culkin) is accidentally left behind when his family leaves for France. At first he’s happy to be in charge and have the house to himself. He can be in charge, do what he wants and have fun, but when thieves try to break into his home, he has to put up a fight!
  5. How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Directed by the legendary Ron Howard, How the Grinch Stole Christmas starring Jim Carey as the Grinch himself is another favourite Christmas movie of mine. Although, at first my girls were a little scared of the Grinch, they soon came around to him! How The Grinch Stole Christmas tells of how the Grinch lives in solitude just outside Whoville. The Grinch hates the townsfolk and hates Christmas even more. Cindy Lou, a six-year-old girl who believes in the spirit of the festival, sets out to reform him. Will she do it? What do you think?

What’s your favourite Christmas movie?
