AD| How to make a long distance relationship work
Falling in love with someone who lives a long distance away from you can be tough. However, you shouldn’t let distance come between you and your loved one. Plenty of long distance relationships can, and do, last the test of time.
Naturally long distance relationships may require some extra work in comparison to non long distance relationships, but you shouldn’t let that put you off being with the one you love.
There are lots of different ways in which people find themselves in a long distance relationship. Quite often, it’s unplanned and unexpected, but when you meet the one, you just know and any amount of distance shouldn’t put pay to that.
Long distance relationships are a growing trend. It’s quite likely that this is because more and more people are turning to online dating. Sites such as Date Derbyshire Singles, The Derbyshire Dating Site and Mature Derbyshire Dating are helping more and more people find their soulmates.
Here are some tips for how to make a long distance relationship work.

Make time for one another
Setting aside time for each other is important in any relationship, but probably even more so when you’re in a long distance relationship.
Try to find time each week to ring or video chat with one another. Preferably the same time and day each week can work well. It’ll save you from missing each others calls if you do it the same time each week.
Meet as and when you can
Naturally you’ll want to spend any spare time you have with one another when in a long distance relationship, but it’s important to do it right.
Splitting your time evenly between where you live and where your partner is, is important. That way you’re both on an equal footing and there’s nothing one-sided about it.
This will also give you both the chance to meet each others friends and families when the time comes, plus it’s a chance to explore somewhere new!
Don’t go overboard
Following on from the last two points, there’s a fine line between good communication and too much communication. The last thing you’ll want to do is smother one another with insecurity by constantly messaging, calling and asking where your partner, who they’re with and what that they’re doing all the time.
As with any relationship it’s important that you allow one another your freedom and respect each other. You should both be able to continue your lives normally without being made to feel you’re stepping on eggshells.
Trust
The biggest thing with any relationship is trust. Long distance relationships can make trusting one another hard, but if you’re both open and honest with another then it shouldn’t be an issue. Remember, communication is key. Talking to each other and staying in touch is important, but remember there’s a fine line between ‘checking in’ and ‘checking up on’.
