AD| Setting Up the Perfect Study Space for Your Child

March 23, 2021

Getting your kids to do homework can be tough. But there are ways to make the occasion seem a bit more fun and special, and a big part of that is creating a space specifically for studying. That’s why we’ve teamed with a junior school in Bristol to offer some tips on setting up the perfect study space for your child.

Keep Electronics To A Minimum

While we understand that a computer/laptop may be necessary to the homework task at hand, you should keep all electronic distraction to a minimum. Particularly for older kids, having their devices close to them, with their easy access to social apps and games, will make for too distracting a prospect. You may even find yourself that you work better without your phone by your side, so make sure your kids don’t have the same distraction.

Make It Comfy, But Not Too Comfy

Making the space a comfortable place to them is, of course, a crucial component for making your kid want to stay in the area. Get them their own specific study chair, and make sure they have a good sized flat desk so that they can arrange all their study materials clearly. Refrain from creating a space either on a bedm, or a sofa, as anything too plush may just make a little study doze all too tempting.

Natural Lighting

Creating the study place in an area of the house that gets plenty of natural light will make for a more inviting place to work. Studies have shown that natural light can help with concentration, as well as make you feel healthier and more invigorated. You can also get lightbulbs that give a more natural light glow in the event of studying on early winter evenings.

Keep It A Learning Space

You should try and make sure that THAT desk and THAT chair are specifically for studying purposes only. It will help them engage with the space and keep distractions away. If that’s not possible to do in your house, then make sure you pick an area that is easy to clear away and convert into a study specific location. Clear away all other materials from the space and let them get to work!
