AD| Why You Should Invest In Antique Jewellery
I have many treasured possessions. By this I mean items that bring me comfort and joy. One such item is a beautiful sapphire cluster ring that belonged to my mum. I’m not entirely sure how old the ring is exactly, but I’m pretty sure it’s an antique. It may well have even belonged to my mothers mum.
The thing about antique jewellery is that it’s timeless. It never goes out of fashion. This is why buying antique jewellery is always a wise investment. Whilst looking online for antique jewellery, I came across Carus Jewellery. Owned by John and Elaine Hoyne, they have over 25 years experience in antique jewellery.
Their website is full of beautiful and unique jewellery. In fact, I came across a ring on their website that’s very similar to my mums sapphire cluster ring. This Edwardian Sapphire & Diamond Cluster Ring is simply beautiful.

The old cut diamond weighs 30 points and is raised above a surround of eight round cut sapphire gemstones set in 9ct yellow gold. The diamond is bright and lively, which catches the light and contrasts with the surrounding sapphires beautifully.
For as long as I can remember sapphires have always been my favourite gemstone. I love the various shades of blue and black that makes them stand out against other gemstones. I have a few different pieces of all ages that have sapphires in.
Another benefit of buying antique jewellery is that it’s more likely to retain or increase in value over the years which makes it a great investment. In addition, you quite often get more for your money as the mark up isn’t as high as it is on new jewellery.
Of course there’s also the sustainability aspect of buying antique jewellery. As mentioned above the timeless design of antique jewellery means that they remain fashionable throughout the ages. This makes antique jewellery environmentally friendly and sustainable. It also means that your investment can be passed down through generations within your own family as heirlooms.
I would never consider selling any of my mums jewellery. My children know this, and they know that one day I’ll pass them onto them so that they can cherish them as much as I did. I even have the original box that my mums sapphire cluster ring was bought in. It’s a beautiful red box that has aged pretty well over the years. It has a little gold clasp at the front and inside has a pretty red cushion that the ring sits proudly on.
When it comes to antique jewellery I like to think about the history of each item. Who it used to belong to and how they came about owning it. Perhaps a loved one bought it for them or it was passed down to them from one generation to another, or maybe they just decided to treat themselves to something nice. It’s like owning a piece of history!
