Sometimes the thought of packing your bags and taking the kids abroad can fill you with dread. What if they play up on the plane? What if you leave their favourite toy at home? What if you can’t get an affordable holiday out of school time and feel the need to brave the fine by taking them out a week early?
Let’s put these ‘what ifs’ to the back of your mind for now and focus on where you should be jetting off to. We’ve got some great destination inspiration for you, featuring plenty of sandy beaches, clear seas and enough activities to tire the kids out so you can enjoy a bottle on wine on the balcony when they fall asleep early.
Algarve, Portugal
We hear Portugal’s Algarve is nice all year round, with beaches that could rival the Caribbean and plenty of family friendly resorts to spend a couple of leisurely weeks enjoying the sunshine – while gaining a few extra pounds to go with your tan, if you go all inclusive.
Algarve is the perfect holiday destination for a family because it offers a bit of everything. If Dad or Mum enjoy a round of golf they can escape for the day to one of the area’s lush green courses. There are water parks for the kids to enjoy, as well as plenty of water sports going on along the coastline that all the family can get involved in.
Plus, with so many family friendly hotels you can leave the little ones at the kids’ club and go explore some great properties in the area – because we just know you’ll fall so in love with the place you’ll want to have somewhere to stay there permanently.
Tenerife, Canary Islands
The Canary Islands are a go to holiday destination for families looking to escape the hustle and bustle of every day life but for a good price. There are plenty of islands to choose from but Tenerife is one of the most popular choices for those with children.
Take the kids to the Monkey Park if you are staying in Los Cristianos or head out on a boat tour along the coastline. There are plenty of excursion companies that offer great trips out on the sea with the chance to see dolphins and whales.
Orlando, Florida
When it comes to the ultimate family holiday you can’t go wrong with Orlando, Florida. With Disneyworld, Universal Studios and Seaworld all available to visit, as well as Miami just down the road with its stunning beaches, there won’t be any complaints of boredom.
Over the summer months it can get pretty toasty in Florida so be prepared with plenty of sun cream and bottled water when you visit the parks to have your picture taken with Mickey and his gang of Disney pals.
If you don’t think you can afford a holiday over in the US then why not opt for Disneyland Paris, which is a little closer to home and much more affordable. At the moment you can enjoy 25% off and free half board accommodation on the website ready for the summer months.
Staycation
Alternatively, the UK has plenty of destinations to offer when it comes to escaping for a fun family holiday. You could head down to Cornwall for a few days of (probably not tropical) warm temperatures and lots of opportunity to gorge on fish and chips, surf and enjoy the postcard worthy beaches.
Alternatively, Centre Parcs is the perfect destination for families with plenty of locations throughout the country so you should never need to travel very far. The latest addition to the resorts, near Milton Keynes, features a subtropical swimming paradise, an aqua Sana spa (for when you need to take time out from the river rapids) and plenty of outdoor activities for the kids to enjoy, from Segways to climbing apparatus.
Whatever your budget or activity requirements (some kids just can’t sit still) there are plenty of holiday destinations out there for every family. Just remember to take plenty of sun cream, plus your camera to capture those special moments!
