Boredom Busting Ideas for Toddlers
Summers here, school’s out and for parents of toddlers that also means playgroups are out too!
Here are some great activities to keep your toddlers busy this summer. Some are free and others only cost a few pounds, but they’ll be sure to entertain!
Potato print painting
Who didn’t do this when they were a child?!
It’s great fun and something a bit different from the norm of painting with a paintbrush or your fingers!
It’s easy to do, simply buy some potatoes of all different shapes and sizes then cut them in half before handing to your toddler.
I always find it easier to put a blob of each colour paint onto a plastic plate or tray so it’s easy for your child to dip their potatoes in and create a fabulous potato print photo!
The great thing about a picnic is that you can have one indoors or outdoors depending on the weather.
Children love doing something new and exciting so why not find a tent, picnic blanket or make a den to have your very own picnic in!
If it’s a dry, sunny day you could have a picnic in your garden, local park or woods.
If it’s raining why not set up a blanket in your front room, conservatory or kitchen and have an indoor picnic.
Food/toy hunt
Our twins love playing this game!
It keeps them entertained for a good 30-60 minutes and is great to get them thinking and exploring.
You can use a toy basket, trolley, bag or box.
All you need to do is hide your little one’s toys in and around your living room.
I use the girls plastic fruit and vegetables and hide them under pillows, on top of the bookcase and in front of the TV.
They have a toy trolley each and love racing around front room collecting as many items as they can find!
Tissue paper clothes
Another favourite thing to do in our home!
Create your very own fashion show and use tissue paper to create beautiful hats, skirts and scarves!
Simple and great fun!
Playdough letters and numbers
Educational and also fun, the aim of this game is to help your toddlers recognise letters and numbers.
You’ll need a large piece of cardboard and a marker pen. A few sheets of paper will also work if you don’t have cardboard to hand.
Draw a few large letters and numbers and then ask your toddler to use the playdough to create the same shape by lying rolling the dough and placing it on top of the letter or number in the same shape.
