Brilliant Mum Feature

This week our brilliant mum feature is Kerry from One Hull of a Mum.

Kerry is a stay at home mum from Hull. She’s 31 and has 2 feral children, a 5 year old boy Joseph and an 18 month girl called Alice. She’s been married to her hubby (One Hull of a dad) for 7 years. In her spare time Kerry loves to bake and decorate cakes, enjoy days out with her family and also admits that she’s addicted to watching Disney vlogs on You tube!

Thanks for taking part Kerry!

Have you always wanted to be a mum?

Yes, I had a bad experience after my boy was born so didnt think we wanted anymore but wanted a girl so so much, so we decided to have one more.

How did you feel when your children were born?

My first birth was a natural birth, didn’t even use the gas and air as it all happened so quick, I then ended up needing the epidural for surgery afterwards from having a 4th degree tear, i was told that i couldn’t have a natural birth again. My second birth was a ceserean section, which was pretty amazing, it was so relaxed and all the midwifes was excited as we didn’t know the sex, one of them was going on holiday right after the birth as her shift was ending so she asked us if she could play her favourite album. I said yes and it was Steveie Wonder, the song as Alice was born was “isn’t she lovley!” i cried…..A lot as she was named after my Auntie and grandma and we’d had her name ready for her since 2009!! My first birth took a lot of recovering from and even now i still suffer some days, my second birth although was a section the scars nearly gone and I’m back to my usual self. Whatever birth we have theres nothing like that feeling of holding your baby in your arms for the first time. I had the same feeling with both births even though they was completely different.

What have been your most rewarding experiences so far as a mum?

Seeing my boy doing so well in school, he is so clever and seen as though his mummy is dyslexic its quite a shock at how clever he is! he’s a ruddy genius!!

What are some of your funniest moments to have happened to you as a mum?

When joseph was really little he had just done a massive poonami the type that reaches the hair!! i was in such a tizz with him screaming and i was trying to cut him out of his baby grow, I had it all over my hands and for some reason when i went to grab the nappy bags i licked my fingers to help open the bag!! yes! you guessed it my fingers was covered in crap!!

Have there been any situations with your children that you have found difficult to cope with?

Yes my little boy is nearly 6 so he’s finding out all the different emotions and having a lot of tantrums! not the throw themselves on the floor kind…..but the kind were he turns and tells me he hates me and wants another mummy kind! I know he doesn’t mean it and he ends up sobbing in his bed at 12am when he wakes through the night and remembers what he has said but it does hurt, it really does, even for just that split second.

What are your dreams and hopes for your children?

That they grow up happy and healthy, I hope they accomplish everything they want in life, and i hope they travel and see the world that’s out there for them to see.
