Brilliant Mum Feature: Week 4

May 4, 2017

Hello and welcome to the Brilliant Mum Feature. Once a week I will be featuring one mum in a bid to find out more about them and their lives.

If you’d like to take part in this series, simply fill in this form.

Brilliant Mum Feature

This week our brilliant mum feature is Laura who blogs at Loopy Lou Laura. Laura is 35 years old and lives on the Hampshire/Surrey/Berkshire border with her partner Chris. They have 3 children, Matthew aged 6, Anya aged 4 and Zach 1 in 5 days(!) and their elderly collie dog Ollie. Laura is an avid reader and tv watcher (when she has the time), Laura and Chris love Lego and other construction toys. Laura is a vegetarian with a wheat allergy and oral allergy syndrome to fruit so eating out is not a lot of fun.

Thanks for taking part Laura!

Have you always wanted to be a mum?

ALWAYS! But the reality is not what I expected!

How did you feel when your children were born?

Totally overwhelmed with love each time. Terrified by the responsibility 🙂 Matthew’s birth: I never got the urge to push, I’d completely underestimated the pain. Anya’s: in denial, though I was still way off but then she was here! Zach’s: induced as 2 weeks late, all contractions were doubled up, happened so quickly Chris missed it by 3 minutes 🙁

What have been your most rewarding experiences so far as a mum?

Seeing the children develop into polite, loving, caring human beings. Hearing them say I love you or just giving me a great big grin.

What are some of your funniest moments to have happened to you as a mum?

Not one of Matthew’s jokes, that’s for sure! Mostly involving bodily functions and fluids: poos in the bath, Matthew’s wee dance, the minutiae of their focus on something when they are supposed to be doing something else, Anya wearing my clothes or doing makeup. Chris and I lay in bed chatting at the end of each day and are often in fits of giggles that we have to stifle before we wake Zach in the cot beside us 🙂

Have there been any situations with your children that you have found difficult to cope with?

Trying to explain to my eldest 2 why they don’t see their biological father any more. Introducing them to my new partner. Trying to give them all an equal amount of my time.

What are your dreams and hopes for your children?

I want them to be happy and find someone who can give them a happy home life. Simple? I hope so…
