Brilliant Mum Feature: Week 5
Hello and welcome to the Brilliant Mum Feature. Once a week I will be featuring one mum in a bid to find out more about them and their lives.
If you’d like to take part in this series, simply fill in this form.

This week our brilliant mum feature is Emma. Emma is a 30 year old district nurse and lives in Shropshire. She has an almost three year old son called Freddie and is am married to her husband Rich, having been together almost 11 years. In her spare time, Emma can usually be found bug hunting with Freddie! She enjoys photography and exploring the beautiful rural area she lives in. Emma blogs at Ready, Freddy, go!
Thanks for taking part Emma!
Have you always wanted to be a mum?
Yes, literally since my niece was born when I was 7. I loved spending every second with her, pushing the pushchair, feeding, changing and playing with her, we are like sisters now! This then continued when my nephew was born in my teens and I knew that my main importance and goal in my life was to be a mummy, a feeling that’s only gotten stronger.

How did you feel when your children were born?
My labour was a relief as I had a terrible pregnancy (I was very naive to think that just because I wanted to be pregnant, that I would enjoy it!) I had a quick and straight forward labour, which I always feel I didn’t fully appreciate. I’m about to have my second child in 8 weeks time so I’m sure I can take in every contraction very soon! I was completely overwhelmed when Freddie arrived, yet it felt like he was always meant to be with me and always had been. As soon as I saw him, I was like I had met him before. Moments I’ll never forget.
What have been your most rewarding experiences so far as a mum?
Freddie is very forward and Independant but very clever with it. I can see so much of myself in him from when I was a child, for instance he loves to name so many plants, animals and insects, I was just the same. He has his own herb sensory garden and will tell anyone who listens about the lavender, mint, thyme and other herbs that grow that we have used in our cooking. He isn’t shy like myself and his dad, I could burst with happiness at this as I feel it really holds me back and I worried so much that he would feel like we do sometimes, however he is completely opposite!

What are some of your funniest moments to have happened to you as a mum?
I once took him to the Doctors with an ear infection and he proceed to chat to the doctor (by name) tell him his symptoms, ask when his temperature, throat and ears where going to be observed and also weighed himself. He then told the dr to type it all up so he could have his medicine. Everyone was left mouth opened! Also when he was a baby, he was wearing a white baby grow around IKEA. He had CMPA at this time but we didn’t know. We were in the middle of the market hall when I heard that god awful poo siren and his baby grow was plastered up the back with oscar the grouch green mucous poo. The stench was awful and we foundered around the get the changing back whilst doding horrified looks from IKEA fans around us!
Have there been any situations with your children that you have found difficult to cope with?
He had a very serious attack of croup when he was 6 months old, he went blue and had to be blue lighted. As a nurse I have to keep my cool in these situations with my patients, but with my son I was a complete wreck, I couldn’t think straight or act rationally and I really thought I was going to loose him. Thankfully he recovered pretty quickly a few days later, but it shook me to my core as I simply couldn’t help him.

What are your dreams and hopes for your children?
I hope he continues to be the wild, courageous and independent boy he is and not feel held back by anything. I don’t mind if he is academic or not, I just want him to feel confident in anything he puts his mind to.
