Brilliant Mum Feature Week 113

July 4, 2019

Hello and welcome to the Brilliant Mum Feature. Once a week I will be featuring one mum in a bid to find out more about them and their lives.

If you’d like to take part in this series, simply fill in this form.

This week our brilliant mum feature is Jo from A Rose Tinted World.

Jo is a 47 year old mum, to an irrepressible three year old. Jo took some time off from being a dentist to get her mojo back. She lives with her gorgeous other half, little girl and two cats in West Leeds. Jo blogs about being an older mum, their adventures, and sewing (which is her main hobby once the little one has gone to bed!)

Thanks for taking part Jo!

Have you always wanted to be a mum?

Yes. I did know I wanted children. But my career came first. And by the time I met my perfect partner I was 42. Luckily it happened naturally for us.

How did you feel when your children were born?

Exhausted. I was induced 2 weeks before her due date, and had a really horrible reaction to the induction pessary. Then 36 hours later I had a second bad reaction to the IV induction, ending up with a pretty scary emergency caesarean. I was kept in hospital for 5 days after having my little one, and was just totally empty by the time I got home. But so in love with my little one.

What have been your most rewarding experiences so far as a mum?

I always think that the most rewarding experiences are the current challenges that you are facing. At the moment our current challenge is potty training, so I will be so pleased and feel so accomplished when we get that done. But there is always the next challenge to come!

What are some of your funniest moments to have happened to you as a mum?

One of the funniest moments is when I took E to see the health visitor at about 9 months old she was really suffering with her apnoea. She snored so loudly when she was asleep. And she fell asleep as we waited in the health centre. All the reception staff came to have a look as she was so incredibly loud!

Currently the funniest moments come from what she says and how she reacts. She is full of her own opinions and personality, but it can be incredibly funny to hear her take on the world.

Have there been any situations with your children that you have found difficult to cope with?

She suffered with sleep apnoea, so tended to stop breathing whilst she slept. For me , as a worrier with anxiety, this was incredibly hard to deal with. It really affected my health. Thankfully, she had a adenotonsillectomy 6 months ago and is now far better.

What are your dreams and hopes for your children?

I just want her to be happy. And more self assured than I ever was. Pretty much my whole life has been a battle with my self doubt. No matter how much I have succeeded. I want her to be so full of confidence. But not in an arrogant way.
