When I was a child I had a dolls house. It was pink, made of wood and had lights that actually lit up!
It was quite small, but I absolutely loved it!
There’s something really enchanting and magical about dolls houses. I did buy our girls one a while ago, but they were far too young for it at the time and it ended up being coloured in with felt tips and it pretty much fell apart so we binned it.
Now that our girls are three and a half years old they’re more than ready for a dolls house. We were sent this amazing
Butterbee Cottage Dolls House from Big Game Hunters to review.
As well as the dolls house I was also able to choose two furniture sets so I opted for the Sweetbee Bathroom Set and the Sweetbee Children’s Bedroom Set.
The Butterbee Cottage arrived and I was pleased to see that it was really well packaged. It’s flat packed and the great thing about it is that it only requires four screws to put it together.
My husband put it together in around 30 minutes and has said that it was very easy to assemble. The instructions were a set of pictures which were very detailed and easy to follow. The pieces simply slot together. The screws were used to add the windows to the roof.
On the side of the Butterbee Cottage you slot in these cute little flower trays and they also help to hold it together and make it sturdy. The windows on the sides have the most adorable little curtains too!
The roof comes off by simply lifting it up and the shutters on the front of all of the windows open up too!
There’s also a cute letter box by the front porch!
The Butterbee Cottage is beautifully painted making it bright and colourful. It looks great sitting in our living room and certainly appeals to children.
When you open the doors up the first thing I noticed was the curtains! They’re hung on a cute red string which allows you to open and close them! I love it!
The interior is painted with a subtle polka dot design with the downstairs in yellow and the upstairs in blue.
There are two removable staircases inside which simply slot into the panels.
Furniture
As mentioned above I also chose the Sweetbee Bathroom Set and Sweetbee Children’s Bedroom Set.
The bathroom set includes:
- Shower with soap tray, shower head and draw-back fabric curtain
- Sink with basin, opening cupboard and mirror
- Toilet with lift-up seat and flower motif
- Roll-top bath with taps and flowers motif
- Bath towel and towel rail
- Pink rug
The dolls can enjoy a relaxing soak in the bath, or have a quick wash in the shower which I think is brilliant! The curtain can be opened and closed so your doll can have some privacy!
Every single piece of furniture is really well made! They’re all made with durable wood and the soft fabrics add different textures for multi-sensory play.
The Sweetbee Children’s Bedroom Set is my favourite! It includes:
- Bunk-bed with chequered fabric duvets, pillow and ladder
- Wigwam play tent with wooden poles and fabric cover
- Guitar
- Bedside table with opening drawers
- Bedside Lamp
- Desk with stool
- 3 books
- Blue rug
The guitar and books are great additions to this furniture set! It means that children can use their imaginations to make their dolls explore their musical talents or they could just sit, relax and read a book!
The wigwam is another addition giving the set a playful edge. All accessories are made with chunky pieces of wood and are painted with beautiful pastel colours. They’re durable, easy for little fingers to grip and long lasting.
Dolls
We were also sent a set of Le Toy Van Budkins three dolls.
They include Mummy, Daddy and Miss Sophie. They’re made from high quality wood and feature durable fabric clothing to ensure long lasting play time for little ones.
Each Budkin is fully dressed in beautiful fabric clothing and their strong bodies are fully poseable so children can make them sit down in a chair or stand up!
The Budkin dolls are really good quality too and we just love playing with them!
The Twins Verdict
My husband put the Butterbee Cottage together one evening whilst our girls were in bed so we left it up in our front room for them to find the following morning. I decided to film their reactions when they saw the Butterbee Cottage – it cuts out toward the end as my phone ran out of memory, but it’s pretty clear to see that the girls absolutely love it!
They’ve played with the dolls house everyday and it’s wonderful listening to them both come up with different scenarios for the dolls to act out.
They love the furniture sets. R in particular likes the guitar and M likes the books!
Mummy and Daddy’s Verdict
10 out of 10!
It’s quick and easy to put together with minimal effort.
The dolls house is great value for money.
It’s sturdy, durable and good quality.
I’d definitely recommend it!
Thank you Big Game Hunters!

I loved my doll's house when I was young and judging by the video, so do your girls 🙂 It's a lovely house and the details that have gone into the house and the furniture are brilliant. Well worth the money!

Really appreciated finding your pics as I struggled with assembly given the lack of written instructions. It was only when I found your post that I realised I had the first floor in upside down! It’s a gift for our 3 year old Granddaughter’s birthday & I’m so pleased we assembled in advance. Quite how it will cope with a 1.5 hour journey on the back seat of our car is another matter. Also a bit unsure, given how it just slots together, as to how it will survive the rough & tumble of a toddler & a three year old but we’ll see!
