I know! I know! Another blog post written by another Mummy blogger all about her Christmas Day, but I don’t care!
In sharing our day on my blog, my children can read it back in years to come!
Christmas Eve was actually pretty funny. Our girls woke at 5.45am. That’s not the funny part by the way!
Had it not been for the fact that the elves had left the girls a Christmas present each, a new pair of pjs, and I wanted to see them open them, I would definitely have tried for a lie in today!
Anyway, 5.45 was the time we awoke on Christmas Eve and I remember thinking to myself I really hope they don’t wake this early tomorrow.
Now for the funny part. M has a habit of wandering from her bed into our living room at night time. She does this every night, usually around an hour after falling asleep in her bed.
We live in a bungalow so it’s not hard for her to navigate her way from her bedroom that she shares with her sister to our living room.
I’d planned in my head that we’d wait for M to wander in before laying out their Christmas presents in front of the tree.
I didn’t want her to walk in whilst we were putting her presents out.
When M comes into the living room she falls asleep on the sofa until my husband and I go to bed and then we just take her bed with us.
A habit I’m sure we’ll break one day, I hope!
Anyway, Christmas Eve was the one night that she decided to stay in bed longer than usual! Typical!
Whilst she was asleep in her own bed, I started to raid the wardrobes in the bedroom that I share with hubby in search of all the presents.
I layed everything out on the bed and floor, and then it was just a case of waiting for M to wander into the living room, fall asleep on the sofa, and then we could start bringing the presents in.
Whilst I watched a bit of TV, hubby got the ride on cars that we’d bought for the girls for Christmas and plugged them in to be charged.
Finally around 9pm, M wandered into the room. At last we made a start on bringing the presents in.
Once they were all in, I realised that I didn’t know where two of the presents from my hubby’s mum were for the girls.
I had to unwrap a few of the presents slightly until I found them! I then placed them into gift bags along with the rest of the presents from their nanna so that she could give them to the girls herself the following day.
I also happened to notice that R’s pile was a lot bigger than M’s.
This didn’t really make sense considering I’d written down everything I’d bought the girls and there was a pretty even spread.
It then dawned on me that I’d run out of pink paper for M so had used some R’s blue paper. Once again, I found myself slightly unwrapping presents so that I could put the rest of M’s presents in her pile.
Note to self: buy enough wrapping paper!
Christmas morning, M woke up around 6.15am in our bed. R was nowhere to be seen which is a bit odd as she’s started to make a habit of coming into our room at night time too.
Turns out the thought of Santa not leaving presents was enough to encourage R to sleep in her own bed all night. Fab!
However, we did have to wake her up around 6.30am as M couldn’t wait any longer to see if Santa had been!
The first things the girls did was unwrap the presents in their stockings. We did this in the girls bedroom.
Hubby then went into the living room first as he wanted to catch the girls reaction at the sight of all their presents on camera.
When they saw the cars and presents, I think they were in disbelief! Their little faces lit up, as did mine!
For me, Christmas is all about the kids!
It took around two hours for the girls to finish unwrapping their gifts.
We spent the day joined by the girls Nanna, brother and sisters which was lovely.
We had a lovely started and turkey dinner, followed by too much dessert and prosecco for me!
It was a lovely day. A few of my favourite moments were:
•Seeing the girls faces light up when they saw that Santa had been
•Watching my 80 something year old mother-in-law having the time of her life playing with a remote control car!
•Spending the day with our family and eating good food
•Watching hubby get emotional at one of his gifts from his kids which was a lovely box frame of all five of children’s names
I also spent a fair enough of time refereeing the girls in their ride on cars, as they bumped, crashed and ran over things!
It really has been a lovely Christmas!! I hope you had a good one too!

Sounds like you all had a brilliant day and your dinner looks delicious!
I love the idea of coordinating different wrapping paper to different children! Might have to adopt that idea if (and that’s a very big if) we decide to have anymore!!

Sounds (and looks) like you had a lovely day. It was our first Christmas as a family of four this year. Our little one really enjoyed her Christmas dinner, tucking into her turkey and sprouts and roast potato on her high chair; the rest of the day probably didn’t make so much sense to her. 🙂

Sounds like you had a wonderful day Emily.
We had the same problem with Little Miss OMG who decided she wouldn’t go to sleep till 3am! Then had to hurriedly put everything out to get a few hours sleep before the boys woke.
Thanks for hosting #thatfridaylinky and Happy New Year to you all.

sounds like a great day. I often think about how nice it will be to have these memories preserved as more than just a few pictures one day #thatfridaylinky

I fretted over the number of gifts, could not find some, one I had throw under the tree when everyone was distracted then my mom came over with more gifts than I could count!
