Galt recently sent R and M some finger paints so that they could recreate a painting called ‘The Kiss’ by Gustav Klimt.
We’ve used finger paints before and I always ensure that the ones I buy are washable, non-toxic and are designed for kids.
These finger paints come in a pack of six 100ml pots.
They’re washable and the colours are really bright! That is the thing that has actually impressed me the most about these finger paints! The colours are lovely and very appealing to young eyes.
Unlike the usual finger paints we’ve tried, Galt finger paint is thick and kind of jelly like, but it’s just as useable as normal finger paints. Because they are thick it means it lasts longer as you don’t have to use much. A little really does go a long way!
I printed off two black and white copies of ‘The Kiss’ and put some paint on plates for our twins to get started.
Both had very different approaches!
They both started out using cotton reels to dip in the paint and gently pressed them onto the paper to create a print.
After a little while they decided to use their fingers.
M dipped her finger in one colour, then made a little dot on the paper and continued to do this for all the colours. It was as though she wanted to see the colours on the paper first before deciding what she would do next!
What she did do next was mix all the colours together on the plate and then smoother it all over her hands before applying it to the paper! This resulted in a lovely shade of purple and a very soggy piece of paper!
We found some green and yellow tissue paper, so we decided to rip it into little pieces and stick them onto the painting. M also found a green father and shiny, plastic flower that she wanted to add to the picture.
Here is M’s completed picture:
R’s approach was a little less messy and we’re able to see more of the individual colours in her painting! R used a mixture of her fingers and brush to apply the paint to her painting.
Here is R’s completed picture:
We had great fun recreating this painting and will be sure to do it again sometime!
For the purpose of this post, I was sent a pack of Galt finger paints.

Great messy fun…. my youngest does the whole mixing up into a big purple/brown mess. Great masterpieces, and love the bright colours of the paints. 🙂

I used to teach in a Nursery so this brought back memories. The whole sensory think with finger paints is so important for development and lots of fun too. #binkylinky
