Gift to Family Surprise Video

October 27, 2016

Giving back to our family can be a great way to get that ‘feel good’ feeling. It could be a simple act such as watering your sisters garden whilst she’s on holiday, or you could go all out and re-decorate a room from your own pocket.

Whatever the act, giving back always feels good. We’ve recently worked with Saga to highlight how the use of equity release can be used to give back to your family.

My husband, Nigel, and I decided that we wanted to gift Nigel’s daughter, J, with an item for her new home. You see she’s moving into her first home with her boyfriend. It will be the first time she’s lived away from home so we wanted to chip in and help a little.

With the help of Saga, we worked together to surprise J. We bought her a gorgeous floor lamp that she’s had her eye on for a while, along with some practical stacking bowls, which are fab by the way!

Once we’d bought our items for J, all that was left to do was invite her over and surprise her! Here’s the video we put together!

I think J was a little taken aback about being filmed! She’d already seen me filming her from the window so I think she was onto us pretty quickly! Having said that she loved the floor lamp and bowls!

It may only have been a small gesture, but every little helps, and she can now use the money that she would have spent on these items herself to buy something for her new home.

As mentioned above this campaign is about highlighting how equity release can be used to give back to your family. Equity release is basically a way of unlocking a proportion of the value, or equity, you have in your home in exchange for a tax free lump sum; without having to move.

Equity release can be used for various things. Here are some statistics I found on the Saga website about how some of their customers have used their equity release:

22% clear mortgage

35% clear debt

60% home improvement

41% holiday

25% car

20% gift to family

It’s actually a great idea in my opinion, but it’s always best to seek financial advice before making any decision such as this. What would you do to surprise a loved one?
