Hacks For Helping Your Little Ones Sleep Easier

February 10, 2017

Every living creature needs to sleep; that’s a fact of life. When children are first born, it takes a time to get them into a sleep schedule. It can take babies time to understand that when it’s light we stay awake and when it’s dark we go to sleep. Sleep is vital for babies as it’s when they are sleeping that their brain develops, and the same goes for children, as if they don’t get enough sleep, it impacts their mental and physical development.

That’s why, it’s so important that you ensure your little ones are getting the 10 to 12 hours of sleep that they need. If you’ve noticed that your children aren’t sleeping as well as they could be, you might be wondering what to do about it. The good news is that when a child isn’t sleeping well, normally there’s a reason for it. With that in mind, below are some tips and ideas to try to get your little one sleeping better.

Make their beds more comfortable

One of the most common reasons that kids struggle to sleep is because their beds aren’t comfortable enough. Perhaps their bedding is itchy or maybe their mattress just isn’t comfortable enough? If possible, try and find out what the problem is, so that you can fix it. Say, for example, when you ask your child what the problem is, they say their mattress is too hard, the answer is to either get them a new mattress or to get them a foam mattress topper, to make it more comfortable. If the issue is the bedding, perhaps using a different detergent could be the answer – maybe that’s causing the itchiness.

Ensure the room temperature is spot on

If your children’s bedroom is too hot or too cold, then this could be what’s making it difficult for them to get a good night’s sleep. If they’re old enough to understand what you’re asking them, perhaps you could ask them whether their room gets too hot or too cold at night. If the answer is too cold, it could be a case of turning the heating or giving them extra blankets. If the answer is that it’s too warm, opening the window could be a good idea, making the room cooler and less stuffy.

Get them into a bedtime routine

Do your children have a bedtime routine? If the answer is no, now is the time to change that. When it comes to getting a good night’s sleep, having a suitable bedtime routine in place is a must. You see, a bedtime routine teaches your children when it’s time to start winding things down and relaxing ready to fall asleep. The best bedtime routines consist of a warm bath, ideally with a soothing bath oil in, such as lavender oil, for instance, a warm, milky drink, and a bedtime story. If you don’t already have a bedtime routine in place for your little ones, perhaps now could be the perfect time to implement one? You never know, it could make all the difference.

So there you have it, all the best tips and advice for helping your little ones to sleep easier.
