How will your children remember their childhood?

May 24, 2016

Childhood is a funny thing isn’t it. I mean you have no responsibilities, you don’t have to worry about paying bills or what to cook for tea, plus you’ve got your mum and dad to do pretty much everything for you.

I often wonder what it’d be like to be a child growing up in today’s world as I believe it’s so very different to the world that I grew up in.
My memories of childhood mainly consist of playing in the garden with my sister, going out with my friends to the park or their houses and asking my parents for money to buy an ice lolly from the shop!
Of course we had technology, but I don’t think our generation or our parents for that matter were very caught up in it all.
Nowadays you only have to glance out of the window and chances are you’ll see someone glued to their mobile phone or tablet.
Is that a bad thing? Some say yes, others say no. I guess there’s no right or wrong really and I imagine that we all use our electronic devices for different reasons.
Whether it’s to watch the news, browse the Internet or social media, take photos or to stay connected with friends and family.
I use mine for social media, for taking pictures, for blogging and for emailing. I use my phone a lot.
However, what I don’t want is for my children to look back on their childhood and remember mummy and/or daddy as always being on their phones.
When I’m with our girls I tend to put my phone away, but I have to be honest and admit that are instances when I’m on my phone quite a bit whilst the girls are with me.
They might be eating their lunch, jumping on the trampoline or watching tv and I might be on my phone for five, maybe even ten minutes whilst I nose through my Facebook feed or reply to an email. The trampoline, especially, has been an absolute favourite of theirs since we bought it for them last summer following this fantastic guide by Trampolinea.
For the majority of the time though, my phone is left on the kitchen top.
I want my children to look back and remember all of the fun times we have together playing in the garden, cuddling on the sofa, playing silly games, going to the park or the shops etc.
With that in mind, I wonder, how will your children remember their childhood?

I try and take lots of photos with my phone for family memories but I know exactly what you mean.
