I’m running London Marathon 2019!

May 14, 2018

When I started running back in March 2017, I never imagined that one day I would run a half marathon, but that’s exactly what I’ve done! Last year I completed the Cardiff Half Marathon in 2 hours 29 minutes. This year, I’ll be running the Cardiff Half Marathon again with my step-daughter, and I’m really looking forward to it, although I have to admit that I’m hoping to run it even quicker this year!

Now, many people may know that a few weeks ago, thousands of people took to the streets of London to run the London Marathon. I was amazed and in awe of all of the runners.

In a spur of the moment decision, I decided to enter the ballot for the London Marathon. At the same time, I also applied for a charity place with WellChild, and the same day that I applied for this charity place, I received an email confirming that I’d been offered a place!

I was stunned, and genuinely shocked! I didn’t expect to hear back so soon, but I also felt very happy! I’ve always said that one day I would run a marathon, and there’s no bigger one in the UK than the London Marathon!

Naturally, I feel nervous, but I felt the same way before my first half marathon so I know that’s totally normal. What I also know is that I need to start training and focusing on my nutrition!

However, before I do any of that, I have a fundraising target of £1,600!

I’ve already raised £162.50, but I need your help to reach my target!

Those living locally will know that I have a few events planned, but for those who live further afield, and would still like to donate, you can find my Virgin Money Fundraising page online here.

I’ll also be doing a sweepstake to guess what time I’ll finish the London Marathon in. There will be a cash prize for this so keep your eyes peeled!

Now, as mentioned above, I’ll be running for the charity, WellChild. With over 100,000 children and young people living with serious illness or exceptional health needs across the UK, WellChild has a vision for these children and young people to have the best chance to thrive – at home, with their families.

They work hard to get children and young people out of hospital and home. Sadly, many spend months, even years in hospital because there is no support enabling them to leave. That’s why the work WellChild do is to important.

If you can donate anything, even just £1, we’ll be very grateful. Donate online here.

Watching it on the telly and thinking you can do it is one thing, but it’s another to bite the bullet and actually apply to do it for real! Well done on going for it and good luck with all the training. #thatfridaylinky

Great stuff. A friend ran Lond this year for a charity after missing out in the ballot. She was daunted by the £2000 fund-raising target she had to reach. Rather than simply keep asking for sponsorship she branched out. She ran cakes stalls where people donated cakes to sell and organised a fantastic 80s disco selling tickets at £5 each. On top of the disco, there was a huge raffle, as she found businesses were happy to supply goods rather than money in sponsorship form. Don’t worry about that target, you’ll smash it the same way my friend did. In the end she raised more than double the target!
