A little while ago I was debating whether or not to get our girls a bike. I couldn’t decide between a trike or a balance bike.
After asking around on Twitter the general consensus was to go for a balance bike, so that’s exactly what we did. Sadly, a number of months after buying the balance bikes they’ve barely been used.
It never even crossed my mind to get a scooter each for the girls. I’d seen children the same age as our girls and older going around on scooters, but I only ever thought about a bike.
When micro-scooters kindly agreed to send us two of their new Special Edition Lollipop Mini-Micro Scooters we were very excited!
These scooters are designed for children aged 3-5. Our girls are two and a half and they’re great for two and a half year olds too!
They have 3 wheels to help your child feel balanced and safe when scooting, plus they have a super strong brake and they also have a lightweight yet strong frame which means children can manoeuvre the scooter over bumps and kerbs easily.
When I told our girls that they would be having a new scooter they really were super excited! I explained that we had to wait for the postman to bring them, but that in the meantime they could help me look for some helmets and elbow/knee pads for them.
Just as a side note. Well a rather important side note – it’s always important to ensure that your child is wearing the correct safety equipment. Helmets will help protect their heads from falls and elbow and knee pads can also help to reduce the impact of a fall.
I think it’s so important to introduce children from a young age to wear safety equipment when riding scooters or bikes etc. It’ll just become second nature to them.
Anyway back to the scooters and I was curious to see how well the girls would take to them.
We took the scooters into the lane around the back of our house and it didn’t take long before the girls got the idea of what they needed to do.
M took to it like a duck to water. She started off carefully, concentrating on what she was doing and where she was going.
The scooters have tilt and lean steering which allows children to master how to ride the scooter quickly and intuitively, but neither M nor R have yet discovered how to change direction! They prefer to stop, pick up the scooter, set it straight again and scoot off again! We’re working on it, but I’m sure it won’t take long as their confidence grows!
R was a little more cautious and hasn’t quite to grips with it, but she’s not far off. She likes to start off with me holding the handlebars with her, but she soon asks to do it on her own.
She has on occasion become a little frustrated with it, but I think this is down to seeing M scooting everywhere with ease! I know R will soon get the hang of it though!
The three wheels on the scooter are great to help children maintain their balance and I like that the handlebars are padded for extra comfort.
We were sent one Mini Micro Scooter T-Bar Lollipop in Red and one in yellow. There are a huge number of colours available, but the new 2014 lollipop range features new coloured wheels and a painted stem.
These scooters are ideal for taking your children to and from nursery or school. They’re so lightweight which means carrying one, or two back home in my case, won’t be a problem.
These scooters really are the ones I see everywhere! In the park, outside the shop and outside the school gates!
Does your little one have a scooter? Did they learn how to ride it quickly?
For the purpose of this review we were sent two mini micro scooters.

Good to be teaching them to wear safety equipment. I’ve done that myself. Somebody should have taught me a loing time ago.
