Nursery School Update
The girls have been going to nursery now since the beginning of September. To read how their first day went click here.
In the run up to them starting nursery I was really anxious. They’ve always been looked after at home by a family member. They’ve never been away from mummy and daddy, and they’ve never been to a nursery.
I take them to play groups and we have play dates, but I’m always there. I really didn’t know how the girls would settle in, but I’m pleased to say that they’ve settled in really well!
My husband and I did lots of things to prepare them for nursery. We talked about nursery a lot together, we read books about starting nursery and we watched TV shows about starting nursery so they were very prepared.
On their first day there weren’t any tears from them, but I did have a few! It feels like only yesterday that they were born and now they’re in school!
Since starting they’ve become more confident and more grown up! They were in the bath the other day and started singing. I couldn’t understand what they were saying so I asked them what they were singing and they said it was the snack time song. I was pretty impressed that they’d remember it, but even more impressed that the reason I hadn’t been able to understand their singing was because they were singing in Welsh!
It amazes me how much they learn! Nursery school isn’t compulsory at their age, but with the government offering free places for two and a half hours a day, I’m glad that they’re going.
I think it will prepare for them for big school. I think if they went straight into big school, full time without having had the nursery school experience it would have been a big shock.
When we walk from the car to the school they skip and when we get to nursery they give me a kiss and cuddle, then walking in holding hands!
When I pick them up I’m always the first in the queue. I like to make sure that when they come out into the cloakroom they can see me!
They always come out with a smile on their face and with lots of drawings and paintings!
Time goes so fast and before I know they’ll be in high school!

It's a big step for them, but it sounds like they are enjoying it. Did you have a few tears when they went for the first time?
