Our Christmas 2014f

January 12, 2015
I know I’m a little late in writing this, but I wanted to write about our Christmas day so that in years to come our girls may look back on this post and read it with joy!

R and M will be three years old in February and that means that this year they are so much more aware of Christmas than they’ve ever been before.

It’s both exciting for them, but also for us as parents because we can instil the magic of Christmas in them!

In the run up to Christmas twin daddy and I had been talking to the girls regularly about Christmas. Neither of us are religious so we just wanted to keep it simple. We explained that on Christmas Eve Santa would be visiting all of the good girls and boys around the world and leaving them presents.

We told R and M all about Santa and his reindeers and how he travels around the world in one night on his sleigh. We showed the girls pictures of Santa and we watched Christmas films together too.

R and M started to understand and then we asked them both what they wanted for Christmas.

M’s answer was by far the best! She wanted a birthday for Christmas!

I think the reasoning behind this is that back in October it was the girls cousins second birthday and M had seen that their cousin had received lots of presents for her birthday, so M wanted a birthday so that she could have presents too! Quite clever really!

R also asked for lots of presents!

As the weeks went by, R and M talked about Santa and Christmas a lot and they even decided between them that they would like a toy pig and Kristoff from Frozen for Christmas.

I’m not sure where they got the idea of a toy pig from because they’ve never watched anything with a pig in such as Peppa Pig before, but I can only assume it’s from a love of going to the farm back in the summer!

We also took the girls to see Santa and they loved it.

There was a walk-through before we got to see Santa which was lovely. An elf took us into Santa’s courtyard and we walked across the Frozen bridge into a room where the girls could throw pretend snowballs at Olaf from Frozen. It was all very well thought out.

When we went in to see Santa there were some other children with us. We sat and listened to Santa talking for a short while before being called up to sit next to him.

Santa asked R and M what they wanted for Christmas. They both told him that they wanted presents!

We then had a photo taken all together which is a lovely keepsake.

Christmas Eve
On Christmas Eve we gave R and M some new pyjamas and a pretty cool plate that I bought from Matalan that has a place for Santas snack, drink and carrots for the reindeers.

R and M put out a glass of milk for Santa and a cookie, then they both put a carrot each on the plate for Santa’s reindeers.

Before long the girls were tucked up in bed and true magic of Christmas started!

Last minute present wrapping and twin daddy had the Bigjigs Village Shop to put together (review coming soon).

After about an hour or so our living room had been transformed in a pile of presents and a new shop for our girls!

We couldn’t wait to see their faces and so we also set up a video camera to capture their faces on Christmas morning!

Christmas Day

Christmas morning came and we all woke up later than usual.

We asked R and M if they thought Santa had been, they both said ‘Yes’ rather excitedly!

We decided to go into the front to find out!

Low and behold he’d been!

The girls faces were a picture!

M was quite funny as she kept saying that she couldn’t reach the TV because there were presents in the way!

The girls didn’t know what to do so just stood on the spot looking at their wrapped presents!

After some little encouragement both girls began unwrapping their presents.

Whilst the girls continued to unwrap their presents about an hour in, we decided to feed them ‘breakfast on the go’ as they were too excited to sit down!

It took almost two hours to get through them all! (Note to self for next Christmas use cheap wrapping paper so it’s easier to open and less sellotape!)

After all of the presents had been unwrapped it was time to get dressed and ready for the day.

My dad came around in the morning for a while and we’d been up to visit my sister, brother-in-law, niece and nephew the day before.

My dad didn’t stay for food as he was cooking for my sister, but my mother-in-law came around and ate Christmas dinner with us.

Later in the day we were joined by the girls half-sisters and brother.

It was a lovely day spent at home and I’m already looking forward to next year!
