Can you believe Christmas is over already? As fast as it came around, it’s gone again. I hope you all had a great time, we certainly did!
At the time of the twins first Christmas they were only 8 months old. They couldn’t unwrap their own presents, but the joy of seeing them play with their new toys made it such a special day for us all.
Their first Christmas in 2012 was quite a hectic one. We’d planned in advance what we would be doing, who we would be seeing and where we would be going, but on the day itself it was all a bit of a rush.
We had about two hours to ourselves in the morning to unwrap the girls presents and give them some time to play with them, whilst we got showered and dressed. Then it was off to my dad’s house for the morning. We had a lovely time and spent it chatting, playing and eating some festive nibbles, by around 11/1130am we set off my mother in laws.
The plan was to arrive in time for the twins nap, so whilst they slept we could enjoy Christmas dinner together. Things didn’t quite work out that way as the girls both fell asleep in the car on the way so by the time we arrived they weren’t tired!
We decided to let the girls open their presents from Nanna, have a little play with them and then try to put them down for a nap. I think they slept for about 10 minutes and then woke!
By the time we arrived home, we were all pretty exhausted!
After last Christmas we decided that we wanted to spend the next Christmas at home and that is exactly what we did! I did invite my dad and sister over for Christmas dinner, but my sister decided to go to my dad’s for Christmas dinner instead, so this meant it was just the four of us plus my mother in law.
Well, that was until my mother in law ended up in hospital the Saturday before Christmas. I’m pleased to say she’s out of hospital now, but she was kept in over Christmas.
In the end Christmas day was spent just the four us for the majority of the day.
On Christmas eve, Twin Daddy set up the girls new play kitchen so it was ready for the girls to play with when they woke and I organised their presents on and around the sofa.
I was like a big kid and couldn’t wait for the morning so I could see our girls faces when they saw the room full of presents!
Christmas morning and we woke around 6.30am. As soon as R saw the presents she pointed at them with delight. M was just as excited, so much so, that neither saw their play kitchen behind them!
When it came to unwrapping their presents, both girls took a rather different approach! M was really good at ripping the paper off and would open one present, have a little play with it and then move onto the next. R would open one and spend more time playing with what she had just opened.
The morning was spent in a rather lazy way, playing with presents and sitting around in our pyjamas! It was perfect!
As my mother in law was in hospital we didn’t have Christmas dinner until 4pm
as Twin Daddy went to visit her whilst the girls napped, but considering it was the first Christmas dinner we’ve cooked, it was pretty good!
Later in the day, my dad arrived with more presents for the girls and the girls half-brother and sisters turned up to see us all too.
By bedtime, the girls were well and truly worn out, as were we!
We saw my sister and her family on boxing day and I got to give my niece her presents too.
All in all, it was a great Christmas!
We’re looking forward to next year!
