Our ideal home

May 26, 2018

When my husband and I moved into our first home, it was all a bit rushed and last minute. We didn’t have time to carefully consider the area we would move to, or what type of home we’d like.

However, now that we’re older and have worked hard, we’ve been starting to think about our ideal home. We’re currently renting, but we dream of owning our own home one day.

We’ve already come to terms with the fact that this will probably be a maisonette, hopefully on the ground floor, with a fairly nice garden for our children to play in. Yes, we’d love to buy a house or bungalow, but we don’t think that would ever be feasible for us, and what’s important to us is that we put our own stamp on the place.

Renting for over a decade has certainly had it’s benefits. We’ve lived in a third floor flat, ground floor maisonette, dorma bungalow, and now we’re currently living in a bungalow.

Having had the opportunity to live in all of these different types of homes, has given us a fairly good idea of what we want in our home.

For starters, we’d want plenty of storage for all of our children’s belongings. You know, all the toys, puzzles, games, books and little bits and bobs that children have. I don’t mind them having these things, but I’d rather them be out of sight!

I’d also like to have vinyl flooring. Although we like carpets, there’s something timeless about vinyl flooring. No matter how many times you change the decor, style or colour scheme of a room, vinyl flooring just seems to go with pretty much anything.

I really like the vinyl flooring that I came across on the fay flooring website. We’d probably go for something neutral, rather than a bold colour. That way any changes we decide to make later on down the line, will still go with the floor.

When it comes to the garden, I’d definitely like to have grass, and a small patio area that we could have a table and chair set on, along with a barbecue. We like family gatherings so this it’s important to us that we have plenty of room for everyone without having to compromise on space for our girls to play in too.
