Back in December I wrote a blog post (find it here) explaining that I was taking part in R.E.D January. R.E.D (Run Every Day) January is all about raising money for Mind, the mental health charity. By taking part I’m hoping to raise awareness and open up the conversation about mental health.
We’re now 17 days into the challenge and I’m pleased to say that so far I have managed to run every day. I’ve also signed up for a 50 mile challenge in January and I’m pleased to say that to date I have run 83.5 kilometres which is 51.8 miles!
I”ve even managed to get the kids involved! They’re completing a 5 mile challenge, which we’ve broken down into kilometres (around 8k), so 8 runs of 1k!

It’s amazing when taking part in a challenge like this, just how much you learn about yourself. I usually run three times a week. Two 5k’s and one 10k, so a total of 20k a week. During R.E.D January I’ve had to up my mileage in order for me to complete the 50 mile challenge. Plus I’m taking part in a 1,000 kilometre challenge for 2018.
So I’ve gone from running 20k a week to running 31.5 kilometres a week. This involves two 10k runs, a 7.5k run and then 4 1k runs with the kids.
This challenge has proven to myself that I can do it. I can run longer distances more often, and I’m actually really enjoying it. I’ve discovered new routes, even if I did get a bit lost and muddy at times!

I have 14 days left of R.E.D January and I’m really forward to completing the challenge. If you’d like to donate to my Just Giving Fundraising Page, you can do so here. My target is £100 and I’m currently at 33% so I still have a way to go! Any support would be very much appreciated!

I really love it that the whole family takes parts, awareness starts at home after all!

Fantastic! Ruining is my drug. Personally not a fan of the run every day challenges because without a rest day the body had no repair time. So pleased the children are getting involved too. Running is probably the most accessible sports and can be so rewarding. It changed my life.

How inspiring! Also, it’s great that the kids are involved, I used to run races with my parents and I hated it (I fall down a LOT) but they are such fond memories now. #ThatFridayLinky

Awesome that you’re doing this, and hopefully it will help instil habits in yourself and everyone in the family to take on moving forward! Going for a run can be really enjoyable when you get into it
