Friday, 17th February, was Random Acts of Kindness Day. Contact Numbers UK wanted to give me, along with a few other bloggers, the chance to make a difference to someone’s day. We were asked to choose a gift from Amazon, to then give to whoever we wanted. The items we chose would then be bought using Amazon Prime’s next day delivery option, saving the day and injecting some kindness back into the world.
As such I wanted to do something kind for my twin sister. Her family haven’t had much luck lately. Her car was written off for the second time due to no fault of her own. This time it was because of a drunk driver. Thankfully, no-one was hurt as her car was parked outside her house and the accident happened in the early hours of the morning.
In the same week my sister, her husband and their children were struck down by a sickness bug. I wanted to do something to help.
I thought of various things that she might appreciate. I started off thinking about getting them a hamper, but soon realised a hamper full of cheese and biscuits, although nice, wasn’t very practical! I could have bought her a gift set, chocolates or maybe some toys for the kids, but I wanted a gift that would really help.
Then I came up with the idea of sending her some food. Sounds a bit random, but when you consider that they were unable to leave the house to do their food shop, I thought it would be a kind gesture, that hopefully would be appreciated.
Amazon Pantry came to the rescue along with Amazon Prime delivery which meant I could arrange for the delivery to arrive on her doorstop on the Friday.
Although I was unable to buy items such as meat, vegetables and fruit, I did find a good range of food available. In total I bought the following items:
1 pack of Jelly Babies
2 x Pot Noodles
2 x Packet Pasta
24 Multipack of Golden Wonder Crisps
1 x pack of biscuits
4 x cans of spaghetti hoops
1 x multipack of Kinder chocolate
2 x radox shower gel
1 x pack of chicken Super Noodles
1 x Tomato Puree
1 x two pack of pizza bases
1 x box of mocha
1 x three pack of orange juice
1 x three pack of apple juice
2 x bottles of squash
1 x multipack of Milky Way chocolate bars
1 x pack of chocolate buttons

I wanted to buy things that were quick and easy to make, but also something that the children could enjoy.
On Friday I waiter nervously for the news that the items had been delivered! A message from Amazon popped up on my phone to say it had been delivered. Five minutes passed and I hadn’t heard anything. Then, my sister tweeted me this:

I was so pleased that she liked my gesture! My sister said:
“We were very grateful for receiving the food parcel as we haven’t had much luck lately. Our car was written off and we had all fallen ill which meant we hadn’t had the chance to go out to the shops. It was very much appreciated and very thoughtful. It meant a lot to us to receive such a kind gift.”
Throughout the course of the morning, my sister sent me pictures of her children enjoying the drinks and making pizza with the pizza bases and puree I’d sent. She even text to say they were enjoying the chocolates too!
I really enjoyed taking part in this campaign! Being able to do something kind for someone else and to see how appreciated it was, was really lovely.
Did you do anything for anyone on Random Acts of Kindness Day? What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?

Great post! Me and my boy took Christmas presents around our local town for the homeless on christmas eve and it felt amazing to do something nice for another in need! Not only are you doing something amazing for someone else but your showing your children how to help others in need too!

Excellent idea. We’ve been on the receiving end of surprise pizza before, which was amazing, and have sent cheering-up parcels via Amazon Prime, but haven’t tried Amazon Pantry yet. I’ll add it to my repertoire!

Ooh I got a tingle reading that! The kindest thing anyone’s done for me was my guide running down a mountain to find a special battery in the nearest town in the valley when my camera stopped working. He was gone 24 hours as we were high up in the Himalayas. I hadn’t wanted him to go and said it didn’t matter as i should have checked there were spares, but he insisted.
Overall getting food for those having a hard time is a brilliant thing to do. We’ve done it for new Mums and sick friends too. Lovely to hear your sister was happy. jo #thatfridaylinky

Your poor sister to have so much bad luck but as you said at least no one was hurt. Really lovely idea to send food, I think that there is much more emphasis put on random acts of kindness now and that can only be a positive. If we all took a minute to do something like that the world would be a nicer place! #thatfridaylinky

Peachy and her Mommy

We’ve had such a terrible winter in terms of sickness. I’ve had the flu 3 times since December. My husband had such a horrible flu that he had to go on antibiotics and was unable to work for a week. Peachy had her first flu and it was a bad one. I spent several nights up with her due to her horrible cough. I felt so bad for her. I know what it’s like to have the family down with the flu and not be able to get out and buy groceries. I’m sure your sister really appreciated that. #ThatFridayLinky

Unfortunately, I didn’t see anything about this on the day. Maybe next year it’ll be better publicised and more people can get involved #thatfridaylinky
