Six Things To Do As A Family This Christmas

Christmas has become a part of western culture, regardless of whether a person is Christian or not. It has become a holiday of giving, joy and family, and even though presents and food have slowly taken over, those remain the most integral part of the day. And the run-up to Christmas is a time where families can get together and spend time together. You might meet up with friends and family you haven’t seen all year, or you might just take this opportunity to spend some fun, quality time with your immediate family. There are some many things to do on the run-up to the big day, but some of them are best done as a family. Even if you have just come out the other end of a divorce with the help of firms like Austin Kemp family law lawyers, or have recently had a loss in the family and are still grieving and visiting a family counselor, these moments are ones that you will never get back.

Shopping

Rather than just buying things for your kids to sign and give away, even if that is the easier option, why not take them shopping? They don’t have to come with you for everything but let them pick out their own gifts to give. Give them a budget and help them to understand the value of money.  Take them to choose a Christmas tree, or to pick up new decorations; they’ll really get into the festive spirit.

Decorating

Whether it’s doing the tree, hanging a wreath or making a gingerbread house, do it together. There’s no tree that looks better than one that your kids decorate. Maybe have a crafts afternoon and make some decorations together. If you have lost someone, maybe take this time to make something to pop on the grave, as a Christmas present. Make the moment about love and remembering the good times. It’ll be hard, but definitely worth the effort.

Wrapping

All those presents that your kiddies picked out – let them wrap it too. They’ll have such fun doing with the paper and ribbons, is a great learning experience for them, and your family and friends will love how much effort they put into choosing and wrapping the gift.

Cards

Just like the presents, cards are a great way to add a family touch to Christmas. And not just in writing them, but hand delivering some. We all remember the stacks of cards we had to write as kids to take into school, it was fun, and you got the chance to write little notes to your best friends. For kids now, there aren’t many chances to write notes or letters, so this really is a novel experience.

Santa’s Letter

Writing a letter to Santa is a tradition most families do at Christmas, but the issue arises when you have no clue what your child wants, you’ve convinced them to write a letter to Santa, and they then insist on posting the letter themselves. Writing it with them allows them to have the full magical moment of posting the letter, and for you to take a peek over their shoulder.

Santa’s Grotto

Visiting Santa’s Grotto is among many happy memories as a child, so why not do it with your child? If you’ve recently, or not recently split up with your child’s mom or dad, then this might be a chance to have some (civil) friendly Christmas joy as a family unit?
