Why is being thought of as a paranoid mum a bad thing?
I’m not always paranoid, but ever since M was in hospital with a severe infection I’ve been more aware and more on the ball when it comes to our girls being ill. I guess it’s only natural for me to feel like this. M was so very poorly and it was very scary.
I kept telling myself that if only I’d gone to the doctors sooner or gone to the hospital sooner, M would never have gone downhill as quickly as she had. I feel as though I wasn’t vigilant enough. Wasn’t good enough to stop her from becoming so ill.
A few weeks ago we all had coughs and colds. Nothing major or out of the blue you might think, but when I consider that M started out with a cold before ending up being in hospital with a severe infection, I’m immediately on high alert to ensure we don’t find ourselves in our that situation again.
Is that such a bad thing?
I don’t think so. Yes, it may be a little paranoid, but I fail to see how that’s a bad thing. When I arrived home from work on the Monday, R was coughing a bit, so I gave her some cough medicine and asked to look in her mouth. I could see some pus at the back of her throat so my husband called the doctors and I took her straight away.
The doctor was thorough, but said he thought it was just viral. I could feel that her glands were up and she did have a slight temperature. Do I feel bad for taking her to the doctors? No. I’m glad I did as it gave me reassurance and peace, and I’d do it again.
I fail to see how being ever so slightly paranoid now and again when it comes to my children’s health is a bad thing!
What do you think?

I wouldn't ever feel bad for taking ours to the doctors. You definitely did the right thing. I think a level of awareness and paranoia is healthy otherwise we miss vital clues. But I suppose, these is also a balance to be struck. We all remember those kids in school who were kept off the moment they sneezed haha.

It's only natural after the scare you had. My son gets worried about his health so I play it down a little but I do take notice obviously, it's our job to protect our children.

No, you are not wrong, nor our you paranoid. I can completely relate as my eldest daughter ended up in High Dependence Unit about 2 years ago and wow, was it scary. She ended up staying 5 days there before being let go, thankfully to a full recovery/no relapse. But, much like you, it has raised our awareness and how fast we act if there is a sign of something a miss with her, of my other daughter for that matter. That siad, common sense also is called for as there is a fine line between pushing the panic button unnecessarly & knowing when to go. #BinkyLinky

It's normal but can become unhealthy if it goes on too long so it's about trying to rationalise it and nip it in bud and not letting kids see it!

My husband would be classed as a paranoid parent when really all he is is being protective. He notices danger and illnesses before I do because he's cautious and aware. #BinkyLinky

100% nothing wrong at all. My wife is exactly the same. We had a similar thing happen and Corben ended up in hospital for 3 weeks, so now even the slightest thing puts us on red alert. You childs health is too important not to be vigilant with.
Good read! #binkylinky

I agree with you and I think you are a wonderful mom for being careful and attentive to what's going on with your girls' well beings 🙂
I always take them to a doctor or at least call the nurse line too to make sure. I hear scary stories and I would hate to regret not doing what my intuition tells me. My sister in law tells me I am too worried and over protectorive. She tells me all children get high fever, its normal… but I am not a doctor to decide if 40 degrees fever is normal for that time on my child… hmmm. Thank you for an interesting post. You are great. Hope your girls are better 🙂

I totally agree with you. We know our children best so I never tend to trust doctors lol. I'm sure the infection has made you worry more x

It's not a bad thing and I agree with you. I am over paranoid with everything when it comes to the boys but it's because I love them so much! #binkylinky xx

I completely agree with you and I don't think its a bad thing at all! Parents know their children best and if you feel somethings wrong then its always best to be sure! I think as parents we never stop worrying! I'm glad M is better now, it must have been horrible for all of you!

There's being paranoid and there's being paranoid. One of my daughter's friends has no wheeled toys at the age of seven. That, to me, is a bit OTT. Worrying about your kids when they're ill is an entirely different matter. Nobody should be criticised for that! Thanks for hosting #BinkyLinky
