Is It Time To Get Serious About Blogging?

June 23, 2017

For many, blogging starts out as a hobby, turns into a passion and eventually evolves into a useful second income. For a few bloggers, it turns out to be a lot more than that. They build a successful business based on their blog and may even be able to give up their regular job.

If you have been blogging for a while, you may be thinking about turning your blog into your business. Here are a few ideas that will get your new enterprise off to a flying start.

Look like a business

You cannot be business-like if you are running your blog from an old laptop (or even your smartphone) perched on your lap. You must treat your blog like a business venture and that means getting yourself some professional kit.

Start by designating a room in your house as your office or study. If you do not have a spare bedroom or a loft space that you can use, you could set up a small workspace in the corner of the dining room. Size is not that important but it must look the part so that you feel like you are going to work when you sit down there.

When you are converting a room into an office it needs a complete overhaul. Get rid of the old floral curtains and order some new ones from this website where you will find a complete range of classic, neutral colours to suit your workspace. There are hundreds of ready-made styles to choose from and this is a quick, simple and affordable way of kitting out your office. Giving you more time to focus on your blog.

Invest in the best lap top or PC that you can afford and get a desk and chair that fit into the space. Now you look like you mean business.

Choose an income stream

Choose how you intend to make money and then focus on that as your income stream. Are you going to sell advertising space on your blog or are you going to accept sponsored posts? Are you going to apply to become an ambassador for a brand? Think about what you need to do to make this happen and how you can make your blog attractive to brands. Select a few that you like the look of and send off a few emails. You have nothing to lose.

Some bloggers decide to sell things and this may be your preferred option. You can sell a service, a digital product or a physical product. Think about the skills that you already have. Could you turn any of these into a service that you could offer clients? Could you offer life-skills coaching or blogging tuition?

Selling a digital product is easy but you do have to create it first. You could start with a checklist or a resource list which could be just a few pages in PDF document. Then you could have a go at writing an ebook!

With some careful planning and hard work, there is no reason why you cannot turn your blog into your business.
