Top outdoor trends to uplift your garden

July 12, 2021

I’m going to be honest, stepping outside into my garden for some fresh air whilst the kids were playing was one of the things that kept me sane during these last strange months. I can’t tell you how much I appreciated having a little outdoor space where it was safe for my family to enjoy when the whole world was upside down.

After being cooped up in our homes for so long, it comes as no surprise that we want to make the most out of our outdoor spaces, including our gardens and patios. So, it’s more important than ever to give some love back to our outdoor spaces. For some inspiration (for you and me!), I’ve partnered up with Designer Shade Solutions, UK retractable louvred roofs to share some of the best outdoor living trends.

The fifth room.

Outdoor spaces have been treated more and more as part of the home rather than just an area outside your house. As Wise Living Magazine says, “Gardens have grown into another room, essentially, with spaces set up for cooking, dining, relaxing and socialising.” It’s time to treat your outdoor space like any other room in your home.

This means, adding comfortable furnishings and other outdoor systems that allow you to make the most out of the garden no matter the weather or time of day – retractable roofs, heating and lighting.  The team at Designer Shade Solutions recommend creating a bespoke retractable louvred roof pergola with them to create the ultimate indoor/outdoor space.

Peaceful gardens.

As Pretty Big Butterflies comments, “People are looking for ways to relax from their busy schedules and, when going on holiday is out of the picture, their back garden is the closest thing to getting away.” This is where the peaceful gardens trend comes in. It’s all about making our gardens the most relaxing and tranquil place of our home. How to do this? Add soothing colours to your outdoors and place bird feeders around so you can sit down and listen to them whilst reading a book or simply breathing in the fresh air. Hammock Giant have so many options available to make your garden a relaxing space.

Show off your green thumbs.

Whether you have a small balcony or a large garden, vegetable plots and herb gardens are appearing everywhere. As this article on Homes and Gardens mentions, “with people wanting to find more reasons to spend time outdoors and in their garden, it’s not only about easy fixes – which is why growing plants from seed has taken an upsurge this year.”

Front yard as the new backyard.

It’s time to give your front garden some attention too. A July Dreamer spoke about this trend in a recent blog post where she explained that “this trend is all about maximising your space and creating a welcoming and beautiful entrance to your home.” And I love that idea! After all, the front garden is the first thing that our guests see when they visit our home.
