Travel Feature: Sicily with Kids
Italy is a country that my husband and I adore. We’ve been a few times and even though we’ve visited the same places over and over again, there’s always something new to be discovered and enjoyed.
Situated at the end of Italy’s boot, Sicily is the largest island in the Med. Full of history, culture, good food, architecture and more, it’s a place that I’d love to take my children too one day. I figure that within the next year or two that’s exactly what my husband and I will do. I think we’d probably rent a villa as I don’t really like to be restricted to a hotel room, especially with children in tow. I went through a good site called Wishsicily.com that give a large choice of villas to rent in Sicily.
I have to be honest though, the thought of bringing our girls with us on our next trip to Sicily has made me see Sicily in a new light. I mean we’re so used to exploring the temples, cathedrals and other historic monuments that I’ve never really thought of everything that Sicily has to offer.

I think Western Sicily or the Tyrrhenian Coast may be the best option mainly because of the beaches. Earlier this year, we went to Spain and stayed right on the beach much to the delight of our twin girls! They enjoyed the beach so much. We spent pretty much everyday on the beach! It’s amazing how sand and water can keep kids entertained for so long!
Moving on, there’s also Madonie Adventure Park which has over 200 kilometres of nature trails going from the mountains to the sea. If the sun is shining, you can pack a picnic and enjoy spending time outdoors. Forest Adventure Park is also another place worth adding to the list of possibilities of places to go whilst in Sicily.
Now, we can’t talk about Sicily without talking about Mount Etna. Depending on the age of your children, an excursion to Mount Etna would be a fantastic experience for everyone in your party. Mount Etna is Europe’s tallest active volcano. A day trip could give you the chance to walk on the edge of the crater, gaze in wonder at the views of the coastline and admire the scenery.
Sticking with Etna and a visit to Etna Land would also be a good place to take the kids. It’s a theme complex with a water park, small zoo and dinosaur exhibit.
Whatever you decide to do in Sicily, I’m sure you’ll have a great time. I know we will!
