Teaching our children valuable skills when they’re young can help give them a real head start and also prepare them better for when they start school.
When Twinkl contacted me about reviewing their services, I took one look at their website and agreed!
I’m a big believer that parents should play an active part in their children’s education. I’ve looked into home schooling my children and have learnt a lot about the education system in doing so.
Twinkl is a fantastic online educational resource website. From the age of two onward (in my opinion), you’ll be able to find something to suit your child. Twinkl have resources to suit the different stages of your child’s educational needs.
Twinkl resources is the trusted home and one stop shop for thousands of lovely, unique, printable teaching resources for Early Years, Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2, teachers, home educators, parents, child-minders, nurseries and more.
My girls are two and a half so I’ve been using a lot of the Early Years resources.
One of our favourites are the playdough mats. We’ve been using the alphabet (lower case) ones.
They love playdough already, so adding in this element to their playing is a great way to introduce some early learning.
Both R and M quickly got to grips with what they had to do. I printed off a few letters and explained to our girls what they needed to do. I helped guide them to start with, but they soon began doing them on their own.
The idea is to create the shape of the letter using play dough. When R had finished the letter ‘a’ she decided to use her playdough to make the shape of the apple next to the letter ‘a’.
I’ve bought some laminate sheets and will be laminating these so we’ll be able to re-use them.
Another favourite of mine are the pencil worksheets. Although my girls are a little young for this one, it’s still great to let them have a go. I like these bunny hop pencil control worksheets, as they’re easy enough for our girls to trace the line with their pencils and they’re great to improve their fine motor skills.
Both of our girls can count to 10 and they know all of the colours, but I think it’s important to reinforce these things. These Colour Splat printables are great to laminate and put up on display. I also love these Build a Tower Numbers 1-10 sheets.
Whether you’re a home educator or not, Twinkl really is a fantastic online resource for all things educational. Even if you’re just looking for something for your children to do during the summer holidays, you’ll be sure to find something!
There’s also a forum which helps bring together a community of people who are passionate about learning. The forum is a great place to find support and inspiration.
If you’re a teacher I would suggest that you check out Twinkl Create. You can create your own resources by choosing a template, writing your own words and choosing the pictures you need to make the perfect bespoke resource for your classroom.
