What is professional negligence?

June 28, 2014

Professional negligence occurs when you’ve been the victim of inadequate advice or improper conduct from a qualified, professional person such as an accountant, solicitor or an engineer.

If you lose out financially as a result, you may be entitled to make professional negligence claims against solicitors or another type of qualified, professional person.

When you use the services of a professional, they have a duty of care to carry out work to a good standard. If that professional fails to do so they will have breached their duty of care to you and as a result you would suffer a loss.

Redress Law is one company that deals with these sorts of claims. According to their website, they’re an established firm of solicitors based in Cardiff.

They’re specialist solicitors that handle cases involving professional negligence, financial malpractice or will disputes.

They’ve been representing people successfully for over 60 years.

Examples of professional negligence claims are:

  • If your accountant gives you incorrect tax advice
  • A builder does not complete a job or carries out substandard/defective work which he/she covers up
  • An independent financial advisor mis-sells any type of financial product to you, including mortgages, life cover or a pension etc
  • A medical professional delays your treatment which makes your condition worse
  • A solicitor is dishonest to you
Have you suffered from any type of professional negligence? How did you find the claim process?
