Brilliant Mum Feature Week 33

November 23, 2017

Hello and welcome to the Brilliant Mum Feature. Once a week I will be featuring one mum in a bid to find out more about them and their lives.

If you’d like to take part in this series, simply fill in this form.

Brilliant Mum Feature

This week our brilliant mum feature is Celine who blogs at Bell from Bow. Mum from Bow, gin addict, perma-knackered, fan of food, coffee & cheese. Celine lives in east London with her husband, two young sons and a grumpy black cat. She likes good food and wine, fiction, writing, and cuddling her kids. She loathes Peppa Pig and Play-Doh, is a huge advocate of flexible working and #workthatworks. Celine says she hopes we can fight battles towards equality and shared parenting, so our kids don’t have to.

Thanks for taking part Celine!

Have you always wanted to be a mum?

Yes, since forever. The reality is very far removed from what I expected, but I (mostly) love it. And when I don’t, there is always gin.

How did you feel when your children were born?

I felt bloody sore! No matter how you give birth, it’s pretty intense. It took me a while to fall in love with my first son, but with my second it was instant – my hormones knew what to do. And can I add a shout out to the NHS for getting them out safely. We are very lucky to have great medical care in this country, and it’s easy to take it for granted *round of applause*

What have been your most rewarding experiences so far as a mum?

Learning that I have levels of patience I never thought possible. And having endless packs of Pom Bears in the house is rewarding in a different (but equally excellent) way.

What are some of your funniest moments to have happened to you as a mum?

My almost-three year old, saying very seriously, “I love my penis mummy”. That’s the beginning of the love affair right there.

Have there been any situations with your children that you have found difficult to cope with?

The early starts. The zillion stories at bedtime. Saying no. Them saying no. Refusing any food that isn’t beige. It’s all hard, right?! But if you remember it’s all ALWAYS just a phase, you get through it. And the slog is worth it.

What are your dreams and hopes for your children?

Happiness and health. Anything else is a bonus.
