Choosing the perfect name for your dog

November 4, 2022

Introducing a pet into your family is a very big decision and should not be taken lightly. A pet of any kind is a huge responsibility both in time and money. Pets are time-consuming and can be costly. You will need to think about the cost of the initial set-up. From beds to crates, food bowls to leads, toys and of course pet insurance and vet treatments such as microchipping and neutering. There are a lot of things to think about.

What dog should you get?

Dogs in particular take up a lot of time. It’s important that you consider what type of dog suits your home best. This will depend on a variety of different things from the size of your home and garden to the type of dog you want and of course, if you have children, you’ll want an easy to train, child-friendly dog that is well behaved.

Responsibilities

You’ll also need to think about who will walk the dog first thing in the morning and also throughout the day. In addition, a bored dog can quickly become a destructive dog. In order to protect your home, furnishings, carpets etc, it’s vitally important that you provide plenty of stimulation for your dog. Make time to play a variety of different games with your dog . When you don’t have the time to play with your dog be sure to provide them with plenty of interactive toys. Toys that you can hide treats in are always a hit as are slow feeders and licky mats.

If you’ve already made the decision to welcome a dog into your home, then you’ve most likely done a lot of research. That means you can now start to think about the perfect name for your dog. Exciting!

Choosing your dogs name

If you’re stuck for ideas, check out the top puppy names of 2022 according to kennel club. My personal favourite is Charlie! It’s super cute and so much better to shout ‘Charlie’ to call your dog to you in public than something like ‘Trevor’! Sorry to all the Trevor’s out there. It’s just not a dog’s name is it!

Choosing the perfect name for your dog can be tricky. Especially if you have multiple people, such as children, who can’t agree. Give the name some proper thought as once you’ve chosen the name, it can’t really be changed!

I had a friend in high school that named their dog D.O.G. If you say it really fast it sounds like Deoge. It was a great name 🙂
