All of a sudden my three year old twin girls seem very grown up.
They can now climb up the climbing wall in the park all by themselves.
They can walk across the wobbly chain bridge without me holding onto them.
They can hold pretty intelligent conversations and they ask sensible, intriguing questions.
Every morning they give me a joyful yes or a stern no if the outfit I pick out for them isn’t what they want to wear!
They know their own minds. They know what they want and quite often they know how to get what they want!
When did they become so grown up?
It seemed like only yesterday I leant onto their warm, plastic incubators as I peeked inside to get a glance of their ever so small faces.
I’d open the hatch and place my hand inside immediately feeling the heat from within and their soft, delicate skin.
I used to sing to them when they were in their incubators!
I’d leave the parents room that my husband and I were staying in within the hospital to go and express some milk for them and on the way there and back I’d stop to talk to them, look at them and sing to them.
It was the early hours of the morning that I found most emotional. I’d sit in the dark next to them. There’d be no other visitors around. It’d all be quiet apart from a radio to keep the nurses on duty company. Sitting there on my own, it gave me time to think.
I remember the first time we brought them home and the first feed. Our first night alone together and I even remember the first time they fell ill.
Their first teeth, first explosive nappy and the first time they laughed.
Their first steps quickly turned into their first run and those explosive nappies soon became a thing of the past and these two little girls paraded around with nothing, but a t-shirt on as they quickly mastered the art of the potty!
How did they become so grown up so quickly?
They’re three years old already.
They start nursery in September and I’m not ready. I’m simply not ready to let them go. For someone else to cuddle them when they fall, to talk to them when they’re upset and to encourage them to take part in an activity. I’m not ready!
I remember when they were babies and we’re all guilty of doing this, but we start to wish their lives away. We even do it without noticing it at times, but we all do it.
Simple things like saying, I can’t wait for them to be able to feed themselves, I can’t wait for them to start walking, things will get easier when they start talking so they can tell me what they want.
We’re all guilty of it, but trust me. Don’t wish away their lives because before you know it they’ll be off to nursery and you’ll be home alone wondering how they grew up so fast.

You are so right! They go from small non moving babies to crawling then walking toddlers! Everyone always said time goes so fast when having a child but it's completely true! Enjoy every moment! Suz x beauisblue.com

I always feel that time flies by so very quickly and that I don't get to enjoy fully everything….

Lovely post! It is amazing how quickly they grow and learn new things! My littlest just started walking and now he's off exploring on his own and I keep thinking, "where'd my baby go?". Thanks for sharing on #myfavouritepost ~Jennifer

Hi Jennifer, thanks for your comment! I remember the moment our girls first went on the wobbly bridge in the park. I had to hold them so tight to help them across. Two weeks later and they were practically running across it themselves! It's amazing how quick they grow x

I was thinking the same seeing my son cycle off into the distance and being nearly in double figures. what happened to my little boy. Lovely post. There are times when it is tiring and tough and we all long for one phase or another to be done with but it also goes so fast. I heard recently someone say 'the days go slowly but the years go fast' when referring to parenting. That can be so true. Lovely post. Kirsten

This is so very true… I always feel a bit sad seeing my little girl getting older – of course it is lovely to see her grow and get bigger and talk and all, but at the same time those precious baby days are slipping by. So easy not to enjoy the moment isn't it, and then it is gone.
Life As Mummy Of Two

You'r telling me, my little girl turns 7 this year and is heading into year 2 at school. How can I be mummy to a 7 year old. That just sounds unbelievable. I am one of those guilty of wishing time away yet with my 2nd I loved the baby stage and can't want to do it all again x
