When we have children, sadly for us, it’s expected that for a number of years, sleep is going to be at a premium.

There are some simple tips and tricks you can put in place to make sure you get as much sleep as possible.

Have the right bed

Having a good bed is incredibly important and particularly a comfy mattress. With a comfy mattress, comes a comfier night’s sleep and a longer sleep. There are some brilliant mattresses from Bed Guru that are ideal for getting a supreme night’s sleep, even with all the commotion going on around you. The type of mattress you get comes down to personal choice as each mattress type has different benefits depending on the person.

Take shifts

It’s highly likely you’re going to be getting up and out of bed on a regular basis, so take it in turns to make it fair. This allows you to both make the most of the sleep you do get and means everything is done fairly. This can prevent arguments and also means your child is getting equal amount of attention from both of you.

Sleep as much as you can whilst your kids sleep

Although the temptation may be to stay up and watch one final episode of Corrie, your beauty sleep is far more important. Babies particularly are nocturnal and tend to enjoy sleeping during the day so maybe try and grab a power nap if you can.

Try not to get distracted by technology

We all want to check Twitter or take a look at what our friends are up to on Instagram but when you’re in bed, put your phone away. They can prove incredibly distracting and make you struggle to get to sleep because your brain will be buzzing with everything you can see on your screen. Try and keep them out of hands reach so you’re not tempted.

Hopefully these tips help you maximize your sleep when you get the chance. Sleep is incredibly important, particularly when you have kids because you have to maximise every opportunity you get. So grab your pillow and get that all important shut eye if you have the chance!
