Fun family activities for the school summer holidays
School summer holidays are right around the corner which means one thing… time for some family time! No more having to wake up early to make sure everyone is ready on time to get to school, no more quickly packing lunches and rushing out the door, it’s time for a much needed break for both you and the kids.
However, as you and I know, school summer holidays are not as easy as they sound… and after hearing a lot of “I’m bored” and “what is there to do?” I know how important it is to have some activities planned. Plus, summer holidays can quickly fly by, so it’s essential to have some plans to make sure you all make the most out of this time together.
Put your aprons on.
Pantry House, UK fine foods delivered, recommend taking the activities to the kitchen as cooking time is the perfect bonding time. What better way to keep everyone busy and entertained than to make your favourite foods? Cooking with the little ones is always fun, unless someone is hungry when cooking… they will quickly turn hangry and that never turns out well.

What if you took the hassle out of cooking or baking by not having to worry about getting the right ingredients and measuring them properly? Pantry House has a variety of baking mixes to make your family kitchen creations easy, delicious and quick! From sweet baking mixes, such as The Bottled Baking Co. Seriously Smart Cookie Mix and Superfood Bakery Chocolate Cake Mix, to easy savoury treats, including Davina Steel Gluten Free Pizza Mix.
Learn about nature.
Sunny, summer days are perfect to be spent outside. Very Well Family recommends a variety of nature activities to take advantage of the long sunny days, including bird watching, making bird feeders and growing fresh herbs. Take time to learn and appreciate nature and all the wildlife that lives in your backyard, some of my top nature activity picks to do with the little ones include making an insect hotel and doing a bug scavenger hunt!

Whilst you are in the garden, why not set up a tent and continue to enjoy your time outside all night long? As David Domoney mentions, “Sleeping under the stars is always great fun, but you don’t need to sacrifice home comforts. Set up tents and sleeping bags in the garden and get kids to eat midnight feasts and tell ghost stories by torchlight.”
Share your inner scientist.
Put on the lab coat and safety goggles and experiment with science! As Stay At Home Mum says, “Curious kids of all ages are always fascinated with the power of science! Kids can do science experiments at home with whatever you have on hand. Like creating chicken sounds from a cup, the arrow trick and the milk and coke experiment.”
