January 9, 2023

For anyone battling stress there are a lot of different ways to overcome these feelings. When we’re children it’s often an unknown reaction and can feel like a struggle to work with. Thankfully there are now a lot more ways we can manage anxiety in each other that will greatly help your child’s growth as well. Here are some ways that this kindergarten in New York recommends.

Identify what causes the most stress

If your child has clear areas where they are struggling and need that extra support, then it’s worth working on those first and foremost. Have a look into what areas your child enjoys, and what they don’t find that enjoyable. Is it clear that their stress is coming from these particular areas? It’s worth investigating and seeing what works for your child, and encourage those open conversations.

Have a space for your child to talk to you freely

Children aren’t going to know about every feeling that appears in their head, as it will take them time to learn and develop their understanding. This can be greatly helped by providing your child with an open platform for them to learn about themselves better. Have lots of conversations, and be accepting of what they have to say. At a young age a lot of these feelings will feel unusual to them – it’s about showing them that you care.

Normalise talking about mental health

We all often are impacted by mental health both personally or through someone we know. This is the perfect opportunity to make them have lots of conversations with you and to really bring home that it’s okay to not be okay. Anxiety can come and go, so it’s important to work on ways to manage it together in order to see improvements.

Make time for your child and help them as you would like to be helped in your own struggles. Anxiety is very common and it can help us just as much as it can hinder us, so it’s important to help your child with their mental health.
