Job hunting for the 30 something female! Plus an update on the job front!
Last week I wrote a post called, ‘A New Exciting Chapter‘. It’s about how I made the decision to take redundancy from my job and how I felt about it.
In the post I explained how I was feeling pretty emotional, nervous and unsure of what the future would hold, but I also explained that I’d slowly come round to the idea of doing something new and to look at this as an exciting thing, a new chapter to do something different.
What I hadn’t thought about was job hunting.

You see, having worked for the same company for 11 years, my CV was severely outdated, as were my interview skills!
The last time I’d had an interview for a job was when I was 18 and that was also the last time I’d updated my CV.
I couldn’t even remember what a CV looked like, let alone what information I should put on it. I decided to ask my step-son who is soon to be heading off to university if I could see his CV!
After using his a base for my own CV and after getting some feedback from various people, I was surprised to learn that there was no need to list all of my GCSE subjects and grades. I could simply enter the number of GCSE’s I had along with a sentence stating ‘Grades A-C. You live and learn!
I was also amazed to find that the best way to look for new jobs is to look online! Back when I was a teenager, we’d buy the local newspaper and scour through the jobs section with a pen circling anything of interest.
Nowadays, there are so many job websites and job recruitment agencies around. One even invited me in for an interview with them so that I could be added to their candidate portfolio. What’s that all about?!
Not to mention the number of job alert emails and notifications I’d receive on my phone. It took me a good hour to go through them all unsubscribing!
Job hunting in the 21st century has certainly changed a lot since I was a teen!
Job Front Update!
Anyhow, I do have an update on the job front.
I now have a new job! Yay!
I had a telephone interview, followed by a face-to-face interview and a few days later received a phone call to say that I’d been successful!
My new role is a care assistant.
It’s completely different to anything I’ve ever done before, but I’m really looking forward to it.
It’ll be so nice not to have to work in an office, but also to feel like I can actually make a difference in someone’s life.
The interview wasn’t anyway near as scary as I thought it would be, but I do think that has a lot to do with confidence. My 18 year old self was pretty nervous, but it’s funny how growing older makes you more confident.
I’ll be starting the training for my new job next week and I can’t wait! Wish me luck!
