Moochies Phone for Kids Review

November 12, 2015
I first heard of Moochies after reading an online news article about them. I was curious to learn more and find out exactly how they worked.
Moochies phone for kids is exactly that. Well, for kids it is a phone, but for parents it’s so much more.
Moochies phone for kids can make two way calls at the press of a button. It’s simple for kids to use and offers parents reassurance and peace of mind that their children are safe.
Features include:
Voice calling
Parent set contact numbers
SOS button
GPS tracking
Safe zones
Watch function

Design

Let’s start off by talking about the design and look of the watch. They’re currently available in five different designs so you’ll be sure to find one to suit your child’s personality. The fifth design is new so it isn’t included in the picture below, but it’s plain black and can be found on the Moochies website.

As a mum of twin girls pink was the obvious choice for us! The device itself is lightweight and really easy to use.

The soft rubber strap is just the right size for children and can be adjusted accordingly. I really like the bright colours and the cute bird print design on the pink version is eye catching and modern. The watch is durable and really well made.

Functions

Now let’s talk about the various functions of the watch. For children this watch is brilliant. There’s no need for them to remember phone numbers as they can simple press one of the two call buttons to phone mum, dad or another family member of your choosing.

The call buttons are located either side of the power button to the side of the device. Parents can set the two phone numbers that these buttons will call.

My husband and I tested the voice calling feature and we were both very impressed. By pressing the call button, it’s pretty instant. My mobile phone rang and we could hear one another really clearly. The watch acts as a speaker phone so you can hear the person on the phone out loud meaning there’s no need to hold it to your ear.

As mentioned above parents can set the two phone numbers that are assigned to the call buttons. You can do this via the Moochies App. The app is easy to use and also means that parents can chose 10 pre-set numbers which are permitted to call the Moochies phone watch. This is great as it means you don’t have to worry about your child receiving calls from strangers because only the 10 pre-set numbers can call the watch.

On the very bottom of the watch face is an SOS button. If your child is in trouble they can let you know at the press of a button. When this button is pressed it immediately records sound and sends a 15 second audio message to the child’s parents. My husband and I also tested this feature and it works really well. When the SOS button was pressed, a loud alarm sound went off on my phone immediately.

The Moochies phone watch is very reactionary which is just what you need in an emergency situation.

GPS and App

The GPS feature is my favourite feature. The Moochies phone acts as a tracking device, allowing the child’s parents to identify their whereabouts via the Moochies mobile app.

The Moochies app is really user friendly. It didn’t take me long to figure out what to do and I really like the safe zones feature. You can set up safe zones such as home, school and activity centres, etc. If your child wanders too far outside of these areas, parents are alerted via the app.

One thing I was curious about was whether or not the GPS would work if the child decided to turn the watch off. My husband took it to work with him and when switched on the GPS tracking worked well. However, when the device is switched off, the GPS doesn’t work so it’s best to remind your child not to turn it off!

As the Moochies phone watch is a phone it does require a sim card. It isn’t locked to a network meaning you can use any network carrier you wish. The only requirement is that the network supports 2g.

To charge the Moochies phone watch a cable is provided and you can check how much battery is left via the app.

Final Thoughts

I absolutely love the Moochies Phone Watch.

For kids it’s a pretty cool looking watch that lets you call your parents at the touch of a button.

For parents it offers peace of mind and reassurance. Knowing where your children are without having to call them is pretty awesome and it’s a really good way of ensuring that they’re safe. I remember back in the 90s when I was growing up, I’d get constant phone calls and text messages from my parents asking where I was! If only this had been invented back then!

The voice calling function works well. The sound is clear and it’s really easy to use. I really cannot recommend this product enough! I love it!

The Moochies Phone Watch is available for £79.99 which is think is a reasonable price. You can find Moochies on Facebook here.

Wow what a tech savvy watch… I think this would be good for my kiddies if they were older 🙂 My little girl would love the orange one and my son would go straight for the black one! Cute designs.

These look really good actually! I love the safety features and the simplicity of how it works. I've never heard of them before but maybe i'll try them one day when Lexie is a little older – at 9 months I doubt she'd get much use out of it #binkylinky
